Day 8 - Holiday Campground , Panacea, Florida

After three days at Fort Clinch and deteriorating  weather we decided to get back on the road. The drive/ride began with  a slight drizzle then progressed to more torrential rain. Again, we have been getting dribs and drabs of sunshine, not the consistent sun we have been looking for.

We’re thinking our plan to go West instead of South this year may not have been the best choice but we will make the best of it. Sooner or later we will get the weather we are seeking out.

We are still not exactly heading  West but have taken a bit of a detour heading Southerly to St. George Island. After 200 miles of back roads and bad weather we decided to look for an available CG.

Ron had tagged the Holiday CG  so we decided to stop there before going over the  bridge to St. George Island. The blue CG sign was on the right with the arrow pointing  down the street on the right but the actual entrance to the cg was about 20 feet past the sign. Needless to say we passed both the road (wrong anyway) and the entrance to the CG. Since we are towing backing up is not an option so we went down the road to the boat ramp and turned around.

The CG owner was very nice and told us that people will either take the right  or drive by despite the giant Holiday GC sign at the entrance. LOL. Anyway we were there and glad to get a place to settle in for the night.image

The view from our campsite was quite pretty despite the rain. The sun actually peaked out for a few minutes but quickly retreated.

We plan to try to get into Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park on  Friday without a reservation. Would hate to make that 50 mile drive for nothing. The on-line reservation system states the park is full but that is not always accurate so we’ll check it out in person.  We have been there before and really liked it  so going back would be a treat for us.
