We woke to bright sunshine today with temps projected to hit the high 50’s. Yeah! Sunshine and no winter coats needed.
Del & Sandi picked us up and took us for a great drive along the coast, then on to the ferry to Galveston. Along the way they told us about the flooding that occurred during hurricanes that wiped out huge areas of summer homes/cottages. Also, how they had to evacuate their home and the water and wind damage that had to be repaired.
Once on Galveston we toured the area. It is quite pretty with lots of beach area, hotels and restaurants. They have a new boardwalk and amusement park.
The waterways were full of cargo ships just sitting. Not sure what they were waiting for but not much was moving.
House on stilts throughout Galveston.
We stopped in the city and walked through the Strand with beautiful architecture and quaint shops. Many of the shops were displaying Mardi Gras paraphernalia. New Orleans, watch out here comes Texas Mardi Gras.
Later we stopped for lunch at another great restaurant, then it was back to the ferry and the mainland.
The weather remained beautiful all day and we were able to get away with light jackets. Later that evening we spent some time with Del and Sandi at their beautiful home.
All in all it was a great day with wonderful people. Thank You Sandi and Del.
