Day 16–Drive to Houston Area–Happy Valentine’s Day–Safari Mobile Home Park

Not much happening today. The drive to the Houston area was pretty uneventful. But not the route to the CG. The roadwork being done across the country is unbelievable and we have  run into more detours then ever before.

Trying to get to the CG proved to be a challenge  putting Ron’s driving skills to the test. We arrived at the right hand turn we were suppose to make but the road was closed to traffic going in the direction we needed to go. We were right in front of the sign to the CG and it was one mile down the road but we couldn’t make that turn.

There were workers in the street digging a very large hole. They were kind enough to move their machinery and guide us over the narrow road. They wanted to make sure we didn’t get too close to the hole.  Good idea.

With some direction we managed to get  to the CG via another route. That is when we noticed the Calder Ave detour signs. DUH!!! The navigator failed again. LOL

The CG was really a mobile home park with a few RV sites but it was fine for our purposes. We settled in and then were disappointed to find we had no internet access even with our hot spot. Ron was flustered because we were so close to the highway and city yet we couldn’t connect to  Wi Fi.

Later that day Ron had a hankering for some ice cream and I wanted to get to a Wal Mart to buy a thank you card for our friends Del & Sandi. We headed out around 5:45 pm in search of both. That was a huge mistake!!!!!!! The traffic was impossible and people around here drive like nuts. Everything we needed was on the opposite side of the road and we could not figure out how to get to the other side with over eight lanes of traffic on I-45. The roads here are very confusing and dealing with the rush hour traffic proved overwhelming so we decided to get back to the CG.

That was a feat in itself since I didn’t bring the TomTom and I read a map so well. LOL . By the grace of  God we made it back and were happy to be tucked  away from the maddening crowd even though Ron didn’t get his ice cream and I my thank you card.

We had hoped to do some research on the Johnson Space Center for a visit in the morning but without Wi Fi access we were at a loss. It is amazing how we depend on technology so much. Interestingly,  we did have 5 bars on our phone but without a data plan we couldn’t do anything with that either – Ron!!!! We’ll just have to do it the old fashioned way and go to the Space Center and get our info there.
