Day 18 - Drive to Hwy. 71 RV Park, Cedar Creek, TX

Our next stop is planned for Austin, Texas. It was an uneventful drive/ride and we got into Cedar Creek around 4 pm. Our original thought was to get a CG about 5  miles from Austin, but the two CG’s we called were full so we settled for Hwy. 71 CG about 17 miles outside of Austin.

We noticed that there were miles of burnt forest on both sides of the road for miles and miles. We saw lots of new home construction along the path of the fire. When Ron researched it he found out that the fire that traveled along  route 21 destroyed 1600 homes, killed 2 people and destroyed untold acres of forest. It was the worst forest fire in the history of Texas.

When we were  signing in another camper recommended that we take a ride into  Bastrop a small town about 12 miles east of Cedar Creek. She told us it was a quaint little town that remains as it was in the early 1900’s with a walking bridge over the Colorado River.

The weather was beautiful with clear skies and a temp of 72 with the next several days predicted to be the same.  Tomorrow we will be going in to Bastrop to check it out.
