Day 48–Sedona, Arizona

Today is moving day and around 9:30 am the CG host stopped by to let us know site # 20 was open. We were ready to move and the entire move took about 20 minutes. We were happy to have electric services despite the fact that we can run off our coach batteries. It is nice not to have to think about conserving the battery power.

Before leaving for the day we did some research and decided to see if we could extend our stay here. At the ranger station we were told we could stay but would have to move again. Since it is spring break we decided to go ahead and book another site for two nights that we could stay at.  Sounded good so we booked site # 83 for Wednesday and Thursday.

The ride into Sedona was a nice surprise since it turned out be a major highway making the drive/ride pleasant and quick.

As we approached Sedona we could understand why everyone we spoke to was in awe of the place and surroundings. There are 360 degree views of the red rock mountains that are spectacular.

The city of Sedona is quite beautiful and we were told that the city is called uptown Sedona not downtown. It was a mob scene, but we finally found a parking spot and walked into the city. It is quite pretty with lots of unique shops and  architecture with mountain views behind all of the buildings.

I told  Ron that although I was not interested in moving to Arizona, Sedona is a place that I could live because it not only has red rock mountains, but green trees and grass. The only thing missing is an ocean.

We walked around town for a while then stopped at a local restaurant for some barbecue. It was a unique little place with excellent food.

Sedona is a very artsy town with many very expensive shops. A great haven for shopping lovers.

After lunch  we took a tour of some of the scenic areas recommended to us. We took a ride up scenic  89A to oak Creek Vista. It was a beautiful ride with limited access and no vehicles over 50 feet long.

At every turn we were impressed with the landscape. It is difficult to really capture the beauty and vibrant colors in pictures but we couldn’t stop taking pictures anyway.

At the top of the mountain at Oak Creek Vista we were able to look down into the valley for miles and miles.

This was the recommended turn around point unless we wanted to continue to Flagstaff.

On our way back to Sedona we were treated to different, but equally beautiful views of the red rocks.

Back in Sedona we took a ride up Chapel Road to view the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

image

We had to wait in a very long line to get up to the parking lot. Fortunately there were parking attendants who were letting cars in only when a parking spot became available so there was no congestion in the very small lot.

There was a vey long, steep ramp up to the Chapel but well worth the trek. The Chapel is quite beautiful and the views even more so.

Again, you could see for miles and the views of the red rock mountains was amazing. Then we looked down from the chapel and you could see an incredible home just below the Chapel.

The home is  large and very beautiful. I looked up on-line and found out the home is owned by a couple who invented a medical device to be used in the OR to detect smoke. Must be a lot of money in medical devices!!!!!!!! Quite the difference from the homes near the RR Station!!!!

It was time to head back and even then we were treated to colorful vistas along the way.

Back at the CG we settled in for the evening. I cooked steaks on the grille but not before the grille caught on fire and melted the drip pan!!! DUH, I forgot to empty it more then once I think!!!! LOL Anyway, after Ron put the fire out and we ate our burned steaks we went to work cleaning the grill. It was long overdue and looks great now. LOL Nothing a little fire wouldn’t fix.

Tomorrow we hope to get up to Jerome, a city perched on the side of a mountain. Hopefully we will be able to  move early again. Nothing like playing musical camp sites.
