Day 2–Americamps RV Park, Richmond, VA

We slept so well at the rest area that we did not wake up for the day until 7:30 am. WOW! That is a record for us. We are usually up by 6:30 am most mornings.

After a light breakfast Ron took Jewel for a walk while I prepared for our exit. I noticed Ron walking back to the MH then turning around and looking for something in the snow. He picked up something, that turned out to be our camera, that he had dropped. I guess while he was being a good citizen and picking up after our dog he had his hands full of dog lease, plastic bag, his glove, the camera and dropped the camera without realizing it.

It was another beautiful travel day with bright sunshine. By the time we  arrived in Richmond it was 50 degrees and balmy. Felt really good to get outside without a coat.

The temp is suppose to plummet to 26 degrees during the night so we were forewarned to disconnect the water before we went to bed.

We settled in for the night hoping to keep moving toward warmer weather.

Day 1B- Finally Leaving for Arizona!!!!!

Finally, the all clear to hit the road. As usual we got a late start  not getting out of our yard until 11:15 am. It was pretty cold but  the bright sunshine warmed our souls.

It was a great day to travel and surprisingly, the traffic wasn’t too bad even through NYC.

We stopped for a quick lunch and Jewel thought we were done driving/riding for the day. When we took off from the rest area she began her adorable pouting routine.

We stopped for the night at the Walt Whitman  rest area in NJ on I-95. Both of us were really tired so were in bed by 8 pm. The MH furnace worked well keeping us warm and cozy,  despite the 25 degree weather outside.

Day 1 a–Waiting for the Weather to Clear in the Southeast

Thank you to our friends for checking in on Ron. He is doing much better,  even though the anti-viral meds make him feel lousy.

Still waiting on the weather down South to clear before we head out.

Hopefully we will be leaving in the morning.

Day 1–Leaving for Arizona–NOT!!!! Storm in Our Path–DARN!!!!!!!!

Well, I have officially retired as of January 24, 2014. After a farewell get together with Ron, Donna, Rachel (their spouses) and Dr. Chuang we were ready to begin the preparations for our trip.

Not so fast - Ron shows me this rash on his arm that looks suspicious. Then he shows me several other lesions along the nerve pathways up his arm. YIKES! Looks like shingles to me. Of course it was Saturday so I called the on-call Doc. After some discussion he ordered an anti-viral for Ron with the understanding that he would be seen in the office on Monday. Saturday was a bust, so we didn’t do much in the way of packing. Ron didn’t feel great and I was tired as well.

Sunday was a whole new day and we decided to get hopping and get the MH loaded. We worked all day Sunday and Monday thinking we  would be ready to depart on Tuesday.

After a quick visit to the Doctor on Monday  the diagnosis of shingles was confirmed  and we were sent on our way.

That evening our Grandson Steven stopped by to bid us farewell. We settled in for the evening anticipating an early start in the morning. But that was not to be. We had been watching the weather  and  it was predicted that the I-95 south east corridor was  going to be hit with a  huge ice and snow storm  beginning Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.

Normally Ron would not let the weather get in his way, but he has experienced bad winter weather in the South during his days as a truck driver.  Sooo,  once in a row Ron used some common sense and decided that since our main route of travel, (at least for the first three days ) would be I-95 that it was prudent for us to stay home and watch the weather pattern  and the clean-up after the storms.

So here we sit with a fully packed MH and empty cabinets in our home in freezing cold weather. All we want is a little warmth and sun  - but alas – it is not to be quite yet. We are hoping to leave on Thursday. We will see.
